For Beginners -- Prepare For The Rain

If you are in a climate where rain may be a condition that you will play golf in, you need to be prepared to play in the rain and to both protect and keep dry and clean yourself and your equipment as much as possible. This article will help you to prepare for rain when you golf.

Step 1 Determine the weather conditions that are present and forecast for during your round of golf. Prepare yourself if rain is present or expected.

Step 2 Bring a golf umbrella that is larger than a normal street umbrella. You will use it to protect both you and your equipment, and as a windshield if your cart does not have one.

Step 3 Carry a top cover for your golf bag that you can attach to protect the inside of the club storage compartment from the rain. You must keep your club grips dry to avoid slippage in your hands when taking your shots.

Step 4 Carry extra dry towels for wiping rain from yourself, your equipment and the golf cart seats. Carry extra wet towels to clean mud from your equipment and a stiff brush to clean mud from your shoes.

Step 5 When protecting your golf clubs, you should take care of yourself too. Carry a rain parka or rain suit that you can slip on to protect yourself from steady rain. Also have a hat with a visor or rim to drip rain from your head away from your face.

Step 6 If your cart has a fold-up windshield, fold it up to protect you from the rain while the cart is moving. Such windshields are usually folded down in nice weather. Untie and drop down the tarps that are on the back of the cart roof (if provided) to protect your golf bag and clubs.
