Buying Golf Club Sets always ranks first in a golfer's buying list. It's always best to buy golf club sets, right? If you're a beginner, that's the quickest way to fill your golf bag with everything you need. If you're an advanced player, you'll improve your game and get jealous stares from the rest of your foursome when you start unsheathing those beautifully matched clubs.

The Argument for
Golf is a game of many different shots, angles, elements and other variables. Purchasing a set will allow you plenty of time to familiarize yourself with all the different clubs and their uses without all the hassles of renting clubs each time you play. The Argument Against
Every player has a unique swing with particular problems that need to be identified and corrected. The best way to improve your game is to experiment with as many different brands and types of golf clubs as possible to find the ones that best suit you. By purchasing a set of clubs, you limit your ability to experiment. Instead of matching the clubs to your swing, you wind up matching your swing to the clubs. In addition, a full set of clubs may have a few irons or woods that you never use.

To Buy or not to Buy?
The decision is ultimately yours. Buying a partial set of woods or irons is a good way to get a variety of clubs on a budget. You could also get a set of clubs and offer to trade them with a friend, or borrow a specific club or two to get a feel for them. Choosing to buy a set of clubs will also save you time, compared with trying to piece together a set of ideal clubs one by one.
