Fisher Not Sure To Take Part In Turnberry

Fisher says that family is more important than the games, and he is ready to see his first child.

And even if he does, he's not sure he'll be able to see out all four days of the championship

Fisher, fifth at Bethpage, remains in supremely confident mood after an eighth place finish on his return to action at the Scottish Open last week.

But almost immediately after handing in his scorecard he was off to the airport and flying to London to be with his wife, Jo, who is expecting their first child on Tuesday.

However, if there is no sign of anything happening, he will get himself back to Scotland by lunchtime and will prepare for The Open while awaiting further news.

One thing Fisher is adamant about is that he will be off the moment he is told the baby is coming.

"It's just wait and see," said the 28-year-old Wentworth golfer. "I'm looking forward to The Open and it's the most important tournament I will play in any calendar year, but what will be will be.

"It would be great to play and the ideal would be to two-putt to win next Sunday, make a short winner's speech and then fly home.

"But there are plenty more Opens. I will be straight out whatever day it is - it's something I don't want to miss and I'm sure it's something Jo doesn't want me to miss."

If Fisher withdraws, he will add to an already lengthy list of changes.

Thomas Levet, the 2002 runner-up, has earned a place after Brett Quigley declined to take up the place he earned yesterday at the John Deere Classic.

American Steve Marino has replaced the injured Shingo Katayama and Australian Rod Pampling got in because no non-exempt player managed a top-five finish at Loch Lomond.

In all seven players have withdrawn - Phil Mickelson, Trevor Immelman, Robert Karlsson, Tim Wilkinson and Dudley Hart are the others - and Indian Jeev Milkha Singh is thought to be a doubt with a rib problem.
