Shiv Kapur in Czech Birdie Blitz

08/20/2010

Shiv Kapur, who is an Indian, had six continuous birdies and in the Czech Open moved into an early three-stroke lead at the Prosper Resort in Celadna today.

The 28-year-old who comes from New Delhi has missed his seven of the last nine as well as last three halfway cuts yet made his burst from the second to seventh holes and turned in a six under par 30.

Miles Tunnicliff, an English man, didn't finish with a top 10 since the first tournament of the year and  down to the 197th place on the Tour money list, also recaptured form to be three under midway by his opening round.

However it was an much harder job for those with Ryder Cup ambitions on their return from the USPGA Championship in Wisconsin.

Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez, co-designer of the course, stands the eighth on the points table, mixed two birdies with two bogeys in his first seven holes on the course.

Ross McGowan, is the 11th place in the list and he needs to finish with a top four to push Paul Casey out of an automatic spot, began with a double bogey seven at the long 10th, yet indeed return with birdies on the 14th and 16th.

Compatriots Simon Dyson and Oliver Wilson were level par and one over respectively. Oliver Wilson with a double bogey followed two opening birdies, while Dyson's only deviation from par in his first eight holes was a bogey on the 14th.

On Sunday he would transcend Casey with a win, but Wilson needs a great week just in order to give himself an opportunity which is for climbing into the top nine at next week's race-ending Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.
