How Long Does it Take to Golf 18 Holes?
The skill of the player, the traffic of the course, the size of the course, the size of the group and the mode of moving around the course are all factors that decide the speed of a round of golf . Golfing 18 holes averages around four hours for average players.
Hole-by-Hole
A normal golf hole will take a group of professionals or a group of average amateurs around 10 to 15 minutes. This is why courses schedule tee times every 10 minutes. This equals an 18-hole round of 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours.
Size of Group
If playing with a full foursome, expect the round to take near the maximum of four or five hours. If playing with only one or two golfers, there will be less waiting and the round can be finished in as fast as two hours.
Driving vs. Walking
When playing in a foursome, golf balls can be found much more quickly and reached when riding a golf cart. These rounds usually take 3 1/2 to four hours with normal traffic. When walking, a round can reach as high as five hours.
Types of Golf Courses
A full par-72 course will take the normal four hours to play, but a par-3 course with 18 holes will likely only take around two hours.
Skill Level
Good players who shoot at or around par can expect to finish 18 holes with a foursome in as fast as three hours, even walking.
Course Traffic
On a very busy course, players could wait as long as five minutes on each tee box before starting the hole. Adding this on top of the normal 10 to 15 minutes of each hole can make a round as long as five to 5 1/2 hours.
