Strong stats
Rollins rolled the field with his A game in Montreux.
There was almost nothing he didn't do well: he hit the ball long (8th for Driving Distance), he hit the fairways (4th for Driving Accuracy), he hit the greens (17th for Greens in Regulation), he escaped from trouble (8th for Scrambling) and he putted well (8th for Putting Average).
No surprises, therefore, that he shot more eagles than anyone in the field and was fourth for Par Breaking.
Course and current form
The most basic punting method of all sometimes comes up trumps and this week it pointed in one direction - at John Rollins.
Did he have course form? How about second at Montreux in 2008 and 14th in both 2002 and 2004.
Did he have current form? Twice he has finished second this year and, more importantly, his form in the lead-up to the event was getting progressively better - after missing the cut in the Travelers, he was 68th at the US Bank Championship and then 8th in the Buick Open.
Once bitten, twice shy
Earlier in the season Rollins had a three-shot lead in the Buick Invitational with five holes to play but he made a bogey and let the tournament slip away from his grasp.
He didn't want to make the same mistake twice.
"I said to myself - I'm not going to let this tournament get away from me," he said afterwards, speaking of the "silly" bogey he made on 16 at Montreux.
"I'm proud of myself for doing that," he said of not repeating the error. "I kind of kicked myself and got going."
