The Energiser Bunny of golf

GolfBargainOffers.com / 10/15

Simon Dyson, the named Energiser Bunny, after clinching the Dunhill Links Championship, the field has witnessed an incredible run.

Dyson, 31, cleaned up at the Dutch Open last month and by collecting a cheque for $85,850 at St Andrews, he took his recent prize money to a cool $16,000.

He has also jumped into pole position in the European Ryder Cup points table.

Dyson, who started with six birdies in his first seven holes, hit a sizzling 66 at the Old Course to finish on a 20-under total of 268.

He finished three ahead of nearly man Oliver Wilson and talented kid Rory McIlroy.

Dyson, who has moved up to 45th in the world rankings, said: "It doesn't get better than this. This gets me into some good events next year.

"I've never played Augusta, for example, and that's a definite aim.

"But I am trying not to think too much about the Ryder Cup, although it is in my mind now.

"I take the view if it happens, it happens. But I would certainly be up for it.

"And I can't wait to return here next year for The Open.

"I have played in two before at St Andrews and did alright, but I want to start doing better in the Majors."

Dyson has always been regarded as a livewire and playing partner Darren Clarke had to tell him to calm down as he sized up his final putt.

He added: "Clarkie told me to take my time and enjoy it, because it just doesn't get any better - winning a title this big at the home of golf. And he was spot on.

"I'm still buzzing inside. Since I won in Holland a few weeks ago I've finished seventh and third, as well as enjoying a good Vivendi Seve Trophy, so without bragging, I felt I was the man to beat.

"I had a great start with six birdies in the first seven holes and from there I knew it was mine to win. Closing it out felt absolutely fantastic."

It was Tom Wilson who revealed Dyson's nickname.

He said: "We call him the Energiser Bunny because he never stops. He was bouncing off the walls in the team room at the Vivendi.

"He'd be a real character at the Ryder Cup, and he has to be thinking about that after this win. He's been playing great golf recently and he will really kick on from this."

Wilson had to settle for the runners-up spot for the eighth time in his career.
