The Most Competitive Golf Championship Coming Soon

The most competitive golf game in more than a decade is supposed to be the 2009 Australian Open Golf Championship. with home bred golfing stars Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott, Aaron Baddeley, John Senden and Greg Chalmers all confirming their appearance to play in the Championship at the NSW Golf Club in Sydney from December 3-6.

The pictured Ogilvy, the current official world golf ranking number eight and 2006 US Open Golf Champion, will head Australia’s international players in the star-studded field alongside Australian golf legend Greg Norman who continues his good form having finished in a tie for fourth place at the US Senior Open at the weekend.

Adam Scott will also join Ogilvy, with his form continuing to improve as he seeks to return to the heights of his World Number Three ranking in mid-2007.

While Ogilvy, Norman and Scott form an impressive triumvirate in the high-profile stakes, they face a battle against the depth of home-grown talent contending for the 94th Australian Open.

There are now 11 Australians in the world’s Top 100 and Golf Australia CEO Stephen Pitt says this will give the 2009 Australian Open incredible depth and added excitement for the fans.

Mr Pitt said it again proved that the hottest talents in Australian golf wanted to compete at their national open.

At the weekend’s Buick Open, Greg Chalmers and John Senden took the fight up to Tiger Woods as both finished in a tie for second place and both have committed to return for the Australian Open in December.
